Vancouver Canucks Appreciation Blog.

I thought I’d put this piece out there in response to a few blog posts and social media responses I’ve seen out there within the last 2 years.

When Trevor Linden and Jim Benning were first announced as the President and GM respectively the Vancouver Canucks fanbase was overjoyed and excited for all the changes that both men were promising , plus the fact that Mike Gillis was fired.  The second they go to make a change the fan base was all over them, Ryan Kesler was the one who wanted out of Vancouver and he wanted to go to Anaheim… sounds pretty difficult to me when you’re the GM coming into a new organization and you’re handcuffed like that with such a low value on the player because of his demands.

The fans slowly got over that and started trying to push Eddie Lack into the permanent starting role over Ryan Miller when he went down to injury. Although Eddie did play well down the stretch, but in my opinion he hasnt proven he can carry a team as he struggled a lot in the playoff series against the Flames. Ryan Miller brings the experience and the talent between the pipes which we desperately need to stay competitive within our division and the league.

So once Eddie Lack got dealt over Ryan Miller in a deal to Carolina, I dont think I’ve seen so many fans outraged around the team since the Stanley Cup finals riots in Vancouver. We traded a backup goalie for a draft pick, makes complete sense to me. That was followed by the acquisition of Brandon Sutter & Brandon Prust which shore up our 3rd and 4th lines. Zach Kassian never really fit in with the Canucks, 3 different coaches and he was never able to be consistent under any of them and was plagued with injuries this past season and it was time for a change. Nick Bonino was a good centre for the team but Sutter will probably be on either the 2nd or 3rd line depending on where he fits best and he will be vital for the success of the team in the near future.

In conclusion I’d just like to say that Trevor Linden and Jim Benning have done a great job so far running the team and wish we can compete for a Stanley Cup in the very near future.

Go Canucks Go!!!
