” Change is Coming”

We are now just over one month away from the start of the regular season, and for the Vancouver Canucks the summer has been full of changes. The changes began with the firing of President and GM Mike Gillis and also the head coach last season John Tortorella, who were replaced by Jim Benning and Willie Desjardins respectively.

The changes with the management in my opinion instantly make the team better, Gillis had his good moves the first few years he was with the organization but recently over paid free agents who never really did work out for the team like Derek Roy and David Booth. When all he needed to do was go out and look to acquire a top 6 player, he kept trying to sign guys who would be more suited playing on the 3rd line. The John Tortorella experiment didn’t start or end great at all, from trying to charge the Flames locker room to naming Eddie Lack starter for the Heritage Classic when all of us fans would rather have preferred Roberto Luongo to be in between the pipes; and that which led to his departure when Gillis traded him away for a prospect goalie who wont even backup for the team this season and Matthias who is a 3rd line player.

The acquisitions of Ryan Miller, Nick Bonino, Lucas Sbisa, and Derek Dorsett will help greatly and give us more depth at each otheir respective positions. Ryan Miller gives the Canucks a proven #1 NHL quality goaltender who can teach Eddie Lack a lot, Bonino replaces Ryan Kesler who he had more points then anyways and Sbisa gives us a bit more depth in the defensive end probably slotting 4-5 on the depth chart. Derek Dorsett adds more toughness to the team and will probably fight for ice time with guys like Tom Sestito, but lets see if he has the hands of Sestito.

I for one can not wait unti the start of the regular season, actually im pretty pumped up just to watch some preseason hockey. Its been a long summer especially after such a disappointing year last year and basically being out of it since January.
